Surveillance Video Reveals Jaw-Dropping Incident

This month, a dramatic crash in Laughlin, Nevada, was captured on home surveillance video. A speeding car plowed through a concrete wall, went airborne, and ejected its driver into a private swimming pool. The footage shows the vehicle rotating through the air before crashing into the pool house roof and landing precariously at the pool’s edge.

Homeowner Cletis Reed was shocked to discover his property in ruins. Moments before the incident, he was about to enter his hot tub when the car smashed through the wall, sparing him by mere seconds. Reed immediately rushed to the scene, pulling the disoriented driver from the water.

Significant Property Damage and Ongoing Investigation

The crash left Reed facing an estimated $300,000 in damages, including a contaminated 25,000-gallon pool and a destroyed patio. This incident highlights the financial vulnerability of homeowners whose properties border roadways, emphasizing the need for adequate safety barriers.

The driver, who was conscious but dazed after her ejection, was taken to a hospital in Arizona for further evaluation. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the incident, focusing on the alleged speeding and failure to stop that led to this extraordinary event.

Raising Broader Safety Concerns

The crash raises broader concerns about traffic safety and the protection of residential properties adjacent to roadways. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of reckless driving and inadequate traffic controls. The role of chance in the survival of both the driver and Reed—thanks to the shallow pool depth and the timing of events—cannot be ignored.

Reed’s near-miss with death and the incident’s random nature underscore the need for proactive measures to safeguard homeowners and their investments from similar risks. This incident should prompt a reevaluation of current traffic safety measures and property protection strategies to prevent future tragedies.

  1. With so little info how this incident happened, why presume the roadway is at fault. A speeding airborne car sounds more likely the culprit. Why not report the facts without your opinion of fault?
