Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker launched a scathing attack on President Donald Trump and his Department of Justice, claiming the administration has weaponized federal law enforcement to target political opponents following the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey.
Governor Claims Comey Case Will Collapse
During an appearance on MSNBC’s Deadline, Pritzker dismissed the indictment against Comey as baseless, predicting it will be thrown out of court. The charges reportedly stem from a social media post featuring the numbers 86 and 47, which prosecutors interpreted as a threat against the president. Pritzker described the evidence as nothing more than seashells on a beach, noting that Comey removed the post himself because he thought it might be inappropriate, not because it constituted any threat. The governor characterized the prosecution as part of a broader pattern of the Trump administration using the Justice Department to silence critics and punish political enemies.
Accusations of Inciting Violence
Pritzker turned the tables on Trump, accusing the president himself of inciting violence throughout his political career. The governor cited Trump’s past statements threatening the death penalty for General Mark Milley, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and instances where Trump encouraged rally attendees to physically attack protesters. Pritzker also referenced Trump’s recent comments applauding the death of Robert Mueller, the former special counsel who investigated Russian interference in the 2016 election. The Democratic governor expressed disgust with the current DOJ leadership, suggesting that Attorney General Todd Blanche follows the same pattern as his predecessor Pam Bondi. Pritzker described the entire administration as filled with officials who blindly follow presidential directives without regard for justice or constitutional principles. He called Trump a demented president and warned that this prosecution represents a dangerous precedent for weaponizing federal law enforcement against political opposition.
