A former CIA analyst will spend over three years behind bars after leaking Israel’s top-secret military plans against Iran, forcing our Middle East ally to delay a critical counterattack. Asif William Rahman, once a trusted intelligence operative with top-secret clearance, betrayed both America and Israel by publishing classified documents on social media in a shocking breach of national security.
CIA Traitor Exposed Israel’s Military Plans
Rahman, 34, had worked for the CIA since 2016 and held top-secret clearance until his arrest in November 2024. The intelligence breach occurred while he was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, where he accessed and printed two top-secret documents detailing Israeli aviation exercises and military movements.
The leaked documents from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency included satellite images of an Israeli base and detailed preparations for a strike on Iran. Israel had been planning the operation in response to Iran’s massive October 1st missile attack, which saw nearly 200 ballistic missiles fired at Israel in retaliation for the eliminations of senior Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists.
National Security Officials Condemn Betrayal
Assistant Attorney General John Eisenberg didn’t mince words about Rahman’s treasonous actions. “For months, this defendant betrayed the American people and the oaths he took upon entering his office by leaking some of our Nation’s most closely held secrets,” Eisenberg stated after the sentencing.

FBI Counterintelligence Division Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky emphasized the severity of Rahman’s betrayal of trust. “By stealing and divulging classified information and then attempting to conceal his crimes, Asif Rahman not only violated the law; he also betrayed his oath as a government employee and his responsibility to the American people,” Rozhavsky declared.
Desperate Cover-Up Attempt Failed
After leaking the documents, Rahman attempted to hide his tracks through a series of desperate measures. He deleted work products, destroyed electronic devices, and shredded original documents in what court filings described as “an attempt to conceal their source and delete his activity.”
Despite his efforts to evade detection, the FBI tracked and arrested Rahman in Cambodia on November 12, 2024. Rahman faced potential sentences of up to 20 years in prison but received just over three years after pleading guilty to two counts of willful retention and transmission of classified information.

“The urgency with which Mr. Rahman was identified, arrested, charged, and prosecuted is a testament to the commitment and professionalism of the investigators and prosecutors who brought him to justice. This case should serve as a stern warning to those who choose to place their own goals over their allegiance to our nation,” said Erik S. Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
In court, Rahman attempted to blame “family-related grief” and trauma from an assignment in Iraq for his decision to betray his country. Israel eventually carried out strikes on military targets in Iran in late October, though their original plan had to be significantly altered after Rahman’s leak compromised operational security.
