During his April 24 show, Kimmel delivered a fake White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech featuring an assassination joke directed at President Trump. The host called Melania Trump an “expectant widow” and made violent remarks targeting administration officials, including calling Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller “Baby Hitler.” ABC previously suspended Kimmel last September over comments falsely blaming Trump supporters for an assassination.

The remarks took on new significance when a 31-year-old teacher attempted to assassinate President Trump and other officials at the actual White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday evening. Viral images captured the First Lady’s expression of fear as gunshots rang out in the Washington Hilton ballroom where the couple sat on the dais.

First Lady’s Response

“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country,” Melania Trump wrote on social media. “His monologue about my family isn’t comedy—his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.” She accused ABC of enabling Kimmel’s behavior and called for the network to take a stand against the host’s pattern of inflammatory comments.

The incident represents the latest escalation in Kimmel’s ongoing attacks against the Trump family. Beyond the assassination joke, his mock speech targeted Trump’s children and senior officials with language the First Lady said “could trigger unhinged individuals.” The timing proved particularly troubling given Saturday’s actual violence.
